Luxury holidays in Agafay Desert

Morocco’s Agafay Desert is a seclusion-seeking-adventurer’s playground – take it from the Marrakech locals who hightail it here for their weekends. Hardy Berber villages huddle among the rocky dunes, but chances are you’ll be too busy taking in the towering High Atlas peaks to spot them. Trek, quad-bike or let a horse (or camel) do the legwork across the lunar-like terrain, then linger after sundown for a spot of clear-skied constellation spying.

When to go

Summer is sweltering, but spring and autumn hit the sunny sweet spot – October, November and February are when the in-the-know go.

Getting there

  • Planes

Marrakech Menara Airport is a 15-minute drive from the city centre. Fly there directly from London, Paris and other major European cities. From there, it’s a 40-kilometre drive to the desert.
  • Automobiles

It’s only a 40-kilometre drive from Marrakech; arrange a four-wheel-drive tour from the city and hop on an all-vehicle (including hoofed) excursion through the dunes once you’re there.
